How to Quadruple Dip on Points and Get Great Hair

In this post I’ll show you how to earn a 39% return on Bumble and Bumble hair care products. I’m a client of Bumble and Bumble salons in New York City, a lot of giraffes are. I also love their hair / mane care products. I do not receive any compensation from them so take this as a genuine endorsement and an excellent money saving / points accruing opportunity.

Now that most airline frequent flyer programs are revenue based it’s becoming increasingly difficult to earn miles from flying unless you buy expensive last minute tickets. One way to supplement your butt-in-seat miles is by shopping through airline shopping portals. To further enhance your earnings potential look for opportunities to stack the the airline portal bonuses with Amex Offers, credit card bonuses and merchant specific points programs.

Shopping Portals

Most frequent flyer programs operate shopping portals where you can earn miles for simply shopping online. For this example we’ll look at the American Airlines AAdvantage shopping portal. If you don’t already have a membership you can enroll here.

Different retailers frequently offer bonus miles so I recommend opting-in to e-mail notifications.

The Dips

For today’s example I’m looking to purchase 4 containers of my favorite hairstyling product, Bumble and Bumble Sumotech. Giraffes love this product because it offers superior hold and it stands up to the Sub-Saharan heat so I’m stocking up. I’m not usually one to brag, but my mane looks fab! Each container retails for $29 so 4 will set me back $116.

Dip 1

American Express offers targeted promotions, which they brand “Amex Offers” on their website and app. Simply scroll down on your online account page or select “offers” in their app. You must enroll in the offer to be eligible for the discount or bonus points. There’s no downside to enrolling. You wont be charged if you fail to meet the minimum requirements.

On my page there was an offer to get $20 back on a $75 Bumble and Bumble online purchase. These offers are targeted, but the Bumble and Bumble offer is widely available so check your page to see if you’ve been targeted.

After you make the purchase you should receive an e-mail confirmation. I value the second dip at $20.

Dip 2

Some merchants operate their own points programs. Bumble and Bumble offers Bb.Rewards program. It’s free to enroll so sign-up now.

The points earning schedule is fairly straight forward. You earn 1-point per dollar spent. Once you’re a member you get free standard shipping on every order and a variety of other benefits as outlined in the table below.

There’s a welcome bonus of 15% off your first purchase. Using the 15% welcome bonus yielded $17.40 back on my purchase.

Dip 3

A quick search of the AAdvantage shopping portal revealed that I’d earn 4 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on Bumble and Bumble products. For this purchase ($116 discounted to $98.60) I’d earn 394-miles through the portal. Using The Points Guy’s latest 1.4 cents per mile valuation this bonus is worth $5.52.

Dip 4

The fourth dip is any bonus you get from the credit card you use to make the purchase. To take advantage of the Amex offer I used my Hilton Aspire card. This card earns 3 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent on everyday goods. I earned 296 Hilton Honors points from the Sumotech. Using The Points Guy’s latest 0.6 cents per mile valuation this bonus is worth $1.78. It’s not a lot, but these kinds of purchases add up over time.

The Savings

  • Purchase price: $116
  • Dip 1: $20
  • Dip 2: $17.40
  • Dip 3: $5.52
  • Dip 4: $1.78

Total Savings: $44.70 – over 39%

Overall Verdict

First Class Giraffe Approved

This is a great stacked offer. The Bumble and Bumble Amex offer is valid through October 15th, 2019 so you still have time to benefit from this bonus. While you’re at it you can add to your American Airlines AAdvantage mile, Hilton Honors points and Bb. Rewards points balances. As a wise giraffe once said: have great hair and travel well.
